TEXT-BASED VIDEO EDITING

Edit video
by deleting words.

Read your recording instead of scrubbing through it. Select words in the transcript to cut the matching video, then save the moments you want as separate clips.

From a long recording
to the parts you need.

For podcasts, interviews and spoken videos: the transcript gives you a readable way to find and edit a moment.

Transcribe your recording

Import a recording and generate its transcript. Words stay linked to the original video, so you can find a sentence and preview it.

Cut words, repetitions and mistakes

Select an unwanted phrase or repeated take and cut its video moments. You decide which filler words to remove.

Build a clip and add captions

Save the part you want as a separate clip. Correct the subtitle text, choose a style and export a captioned MP4.

Clean up the speech.
Keep control of the edit.

Use the transcript to find a false start or a line you want to keep. Preview your cuts before exporting. Your source recording remains available for another edit.

Cut video

Fix subtitles
Correcting caption text changes the wording without cutting the video.
Reuse a recording
Create several clips from one podcast or interview.

What is text-based video editing?

Your recording becomes a transcript with words linked to video moments. Select and cut words to change the video, rather than finding every cut only on a timeline.

Does deleting a word remove it from the video?

Yes, when you use the cut action on selected transcript words. Editing the spelling of a caption is a separate action and does not remove video.

Can I remove filler words automatically?

This workflow lets you choose and cut filler words, mistakes and repetitions. It does not automatically remove every filler word for you.

Can I turn a podcast into short clips?

Yes. Find a passage in the transcript and save it as a clip. You can reframe that clip, add captions and export MP4 while retaining the original recording.

Is transcription completely offline?

No. Extracted audio is sent to AssemblyAI through our service for transcription. Your source videos remain on your Mac.

How do I start on my Mac?

Download the installer without an account. DF Editor requires an Apple Silicon Mac with macOS 15 or later. Sign in with Google after installation; the Free plan includes 30 minutes of transcription in total.
