HORIZONTAL TO VERTICAL VIDEO

Make landscape video
fit a vertical screen.

Turn a horizontal podcast, interview or spoken video into a vertical clip. DF Editor detects people to help frame the shot, with close-ups and layouts for several people.

Apple Silicon · macOS 15+

Reframe a recording
for a smaller screen.

Reuse your landscape footage for Reels, TikTok or YouTube Shorts. Choose what stays in the picture before you export.

Choose a vertical format

Set the output to 9:16 for a landscape recording. Face detection helps place people inside the vertical frame.

Choose a close-up or shared layout

Keep one person prominent or show several people together. Preview the composition and adjust the crop or layout.

Add captions and export

Style the subtitles for the vertical clip, check that they fit and export MP4. Keep your source recording for other formats.

Keep the speaker
in view.

In a multi-person shot, match transcript speakers to faces for each camera view. DF Editor can then switch the close-up when the transcript speaker changes.

Face detection helps choose framing for a shot. Speaker switching needs voice-to-face matching; this is not continuous tracking of every movement.

One person
Use a focused vertical crop around the detected person.
Several people
Choose a split or grid layout to keep more people visible.
Speaker close-ups
Match voices to faces first, then preview the speaker changes.

Contact support
Can I convert horizontal video to vertical?

Yes. Choose a vertical format such as 9:16, preview the framing and export MP4. DF Editor can detect people in landscape footage to help position the crop.

Does auto reframing know who is speaking?

Face detection finds people in the picture; transcript speaker labels identify speech turns. For multi-person speaker close-ups, match those speakers to faces for each camera view first.

Will it switch between podcast speakers?

After speaker-to-face matching, the close-up can change with the transcript speaker. Preview the result and correct the assignments or framing when needed.

Can I keep two or more people in the frame?

Yes. You can use split and grid layouts as an alternative to one-person close-ups. Choose the layout that suits the recording and check the preview.

Can I add captions to the vertical clip?

Yes. Create captions from the transcript, correct the wording and choose a style. The exported MP4 can include the captions and framing you selected.
